Staff Spotlight – Meet Ozz – Hospice Care Aide

Nov 10, 2021 | Integrative Therapies, News, Service Line, Staff Spotlight

Hospice-Aid-OzzOzz joined Hospice of the Northwest in 2020 after eight years as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). He recently started school with the goal of becoming a Registered Nurse. “I started in the medical field when my mom became an RN, and I fell in love with it,” said Ozz. “I am working toward becoming an RN as well.” Ozz currently holds a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential, in addition to his EMT certification.

As a Hospice Care Aide, Ozz helps patients with activities of daily living, such as personal care, use of adaptive equipment in the home, homemaking, and various respite duties. “I help our wonderful patients with their daily activities,” said Ozz. “There are many things we do on a daily basis that are no longer possible for some of our hospice patients—showering, for example. People love that feeling. It gets your body moving and your blood circulating, and you feel better after a shower. So we make sure we do that for patients, whether it’s a shower or a bed bath.”

Ozz-and-Patient

When Ozz started with Hospice of the Northwest, he didn’t expect to love the job. “It was a weird turn of events that led me here,” he said. “And I absolutely love this job. Everyone I work with is amazing. And it gives you motivation every day to try and be better if you work with so many great people.”

Ozz loves riding his motorcycle, playing games of all types, and spending time with his beloved dogs Sheldon and Lucy, in his free time.

One thing Ozz feels strongly about is encouraging people to ask for help when they need it. “It’s hard to ask for help,” he said. “I know from personal experience. I was injured a couple of years ago, and it was difficult for me to ask for help. But we are here to help our patients. We are here to provide dignity and support. We want to help you.”
