Staff Spotlight: Meet Lynn, Admission Nurse

Feb 7, 2022 | News, Nursing, Staff Spotlight

Lynn WalkerFor 20 years, Lynn taught dance and created choreography for a local dance school, Skagit Valley Academy of Dance. During this time, Lynn raised her kids and channeled her love for dance.

After working several years as an audiologist for a local Ear, Nose, and Throat clinic, Lynn went back to school in 2007. She attended Skagit Valley College and obtained her RN license. Lynn worked in the Labor and Delivery department at Skagit Valley Hospital for several years, before joining Hospice of the Northwest in 2016.

I really feel like Hospice is a calling. When I started my nursing career, I never thought my path would lead me to Hospice, especially since my first desire was labor and delivery. But, when the seed to consider hospice work was planted, it continued to grow, and I have discovered many parallels between labor/delivery and Hospice. I have found that it is not only a privilege to be part of the beginning of life but also at the end of life.

– Lynn – Hospice of the Northwest – Admission Nurse

Lynn Walker Travel PhotoLynn’s role with Hospice of the Northwest has evolved over her tenure, starting as a Case Manager and now working as an Admission nurse. As an Admission nurse, Lynn helps patients and their loved ones navigate the process of coming onto hospice service. She ensures that patients are qualified for hospice care and explains what to expect.

Lynn loves traveling with her husband, spending time with her now-grown children, spoiling her Golden Retriever, Pearl, and snuggling her cat, Maggie.

Lynn loves working within an interdisciplinary team while caring for hospice patients. She enjoys the support from different disciplines and how multidisciplinary teamwork creates a holistic approach to patient care.

When Lynn has the opportunity to share what she does for a living, most people respond with, “Oh…. that must be so hard.” But Lynn’s reply to them is, “Yes, but there are so many experiences where working in hospice has been a gift, and it’s such an honor to play even a small role in a patient’s or their loved ones’ life.”
