Service Spotlight: Personal Care Aides

Jun 1, 2022 | About Us, News, Service Line

For some hospice patients, there comes a point where doing daily activities and personal care becomes too difficult. In situations like this, the patient’s dedicated care team may decide to add a Hospice Care Aide to the team to assist with various duties around the home and regarding personal care.

Hospice Care Aides are Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) who have special training to help patients in hospice care. Like all other dedicated care team members, the Hospice Care Aide will go to wherever the patient calls home.

Hospice Care Aides can help with light housekeeping, use of adaptive equipment, bathing, nail care, oral hygiene, transferring the patient from bed to chair (or vice versa), and getting around the home safely, whether the patient uses a walker, cane, wheelchair, or is unable to move altogether.

As part of dedicated care teams, Hospice Care Aides work directly with the Nurse Case Manager to ensure they provide the services most aligned with the individualized care plan of the patient. As certified nursing assistants, they can also educate caregivers about providing personal care to their loved one, how to safely move their loved one, and similar matters.
