No, I’m not an advertisement for STIHL! This picture shows me doing something I love, cutting down trees and brush on my property. For the past 21 years my husband and I have worked on our property and home on Camano Island. We are removing alder trees, vine maple and lots and lots (and lots!) of Himalayan blackberry and nettle. We are replacing them with native vegetation such as salal, northwest huckleberry and kinnikinick. It is a labor of love I enjoy on weekends. Our home is our sanctuary and I don’t travel far from it. When I have free time I’d rather be there than anywhere else on this planet.
However, I do have one bucket list item that would take me on quite an adventure. It’s to see the Yukon Quest start to finish, and to spend time in Dawson City during the “36 hour layover.” Although I support a few kennels involved in sled dog racing in Alaska, I’ve never been on a sled or seen a sled dog team in person. I like the idea of traveling with the dog crew: the handlers who support the musher and team on the 1000 mile race from Fairbanks, Alaska to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory Canada. The bond between musher and dogs is amazing. Studies show that the Alaskan Husky is one of the best athletes in the world. They love to pull and they love to run! A well cared for sled dog team working together is an amazing sight. You can see they love what they do.
I love what I do. And I get to work with an amazing team! I believe we are all pulling together for one goal, to make sure our patients and their circles of support get the best possible care, given with compassion and dignity for as long as they need us.
