Clinical Manager–Nursing

Job Summary

The Clinical Manager-Nursing is aligned with the Mission of Hospice of the Northwest and is responsible and accountable, 24/7, for nurse and aide services. Includes the management of: staffing, scheduling, budget, productivity, overtime, low census; clinical performance and practice patterns; achievement of clinical standards; Interdisciplinary Group (IDG). This position is responsible to report trends and issues to the Executive Director. Salary Range: $50.00/hr – $75.01/hr DOE. Skagit Regional Health offers a comprehensive benefit package including medical, dental, vision, 457b/401a (retirement), long term disability, sick time, and paid time off to all employees working 20 or more hours per week. Eligible employees also receive sick time pay.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborative communications: administrative team, Operations Board, hospice physicians, others.
  • Establish key performance indicators for each functional area.
  • Coordinate the operational activities of the hospice nursing and aide services to ensure compliance with key performance indicators.
  • Regularly monitor productivity and quality in each area to ensure compliance.
  • Prioritize functions to meet performance measures.
  • Participate fully in the Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement program, including review of patient/family satisfaction scores and remedies for improved scores.
  • Monitor and adjust workflow to ensure compliance and quality.
  • Provide workflow and production reporting to Director in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Responsible for the effective hiring, orientation and training of nursing and aide services staff.
  • Performance management including supervising, coaching, performance improvement, evaluations and terminations in accordance with organizational and departmental guidelines and policies.
  • Directs regular staff meetings, by discipline/function, to promote best practice and compliance.
  • Complete performance evaluations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Provide guidance to the Scheduler to assure staffing is at levels that are adequate to meet organizational and departmental standards.
  • Manage and approve staff time cards utilizing the electronic time keeping system in accordance with organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of technical and regulatory topics related to hospice services.
  • Manage within the language of the collective bargaining unit(s).
  • Operate as a subject matter expert for electronic medical record.
  • Participate in development, review and revision of standards, policies and procedures for functional area.
  • Ensure that all Federal and State laws applicable to Hospice are followed.
  • Ensure all work is consistent with recognized Hospice guidelines, legislation and policy.
  • Assist Director in budget development in accordance with organizational policy.
  • Responsible for Administrative on-call rotation.
  • Comply with all Hospice of the Northwest/Skagit Regional Health policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Director or designee.

Education

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. Bachelor of Science/Nursing degree preferred.

Experience/Training

Two (2) years of medical surgical nursing experience required. A minimum of one (1) year of experience in non-inpatient care such as work in Hospice, Home Health, or long-term care preferred. Prefer prior supervisory or management experience.

License/Certification

Current Washington State RN license, AHA (American Heart Association) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. Current Washington State Driver’s license and proof of current automobile insurance is required. HPNA (Hospice and Palliative Nursing Association) Certification as a Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN), preferred.

Other Qualifications

Proven ability to communicate effectively with Administrative Team, clinical staff, other office staff, physicians and other health care services. Proven leadership skills as reported by references. Proven ability to utilize various software and electronic devices to enhance efficient communication and work flow. Demonstrated effective leadership skills with a high degree of recall for multiple, complex details.
