Claudia has a Master of Social Work from Eastern Washington University and is well known in Skagit County for her work focused on equity, human diversity, and social justice. Claudia volunteers her time and expertise to numerous community organizations, and has received many awards for her activism and exceptional leadership.

Claudia is a strong advocate for helping underserved populations by destigmatizing death and other taboo topics. “My mother passed away when I was a teenager and my family wasn’t fortunate enough to receive the type of care provided by Hospice of the Northwest,” says Claudia. “Through the years, I have also observed that underserved and minoritized communities rarely experience loss due to death with supports and/or dignity. Their experience is largely traumatic making death and dying taboo and feared topics. I am now a Social Worker with much gratitude for the crucial services provided by Hospice of the Northwest and with a desire to support with the equitable and culturally responsive efforts in motion.”
