Food is love for many people.
Loss of interest in food, progressive dysphagia and weight loss are expected in advanced dementia. You can reduce caregiver stress by normalizing this process, de-medicalizing nutrition with less focus on supplements and calories, and by suggesting other ways to express love and care.
- Sitting down together for a smaller meal with nice dishes to make mealtime more socially engaging and less medicalized
- Hand massage, hair styling and skin care
- Make a music playlist from their youth
- Look through old photo albums
- Look at vintage cars or fashion on-line
