One-minute functional assessment in advanced COPD

Showering often becomes the most difficult physical exertion in these patients.

Asking one of the following questions can quickly help assess whether a patient may be hospice eligible, may need their blood pressure medications reduced to reduce the risk of falls, or need more palliation for breathlessness.

“Some patients avoid showering because it’s so exhausting. Is this a problem for you?”
“How long do you have to rest after taking a shower?”
“Do you feel lightheaded or weak in the shower?”
