POLST as Preventative Care

Now that an advanced directive is in place, do your part and provide a POLST.

In late-stage dementia, hospitalization often leads to increased fear, paranoia, agitation, and use of sedating medication. These harms often outweigh the benefit of a hospital stay.

Making sure a POLST is present in the home can prevent unwanted stress for patients and their families.
