What Does the Medicare Hospice Benefit Cover?
- Care Team Visits: Every visit with your hospice provider, nurse, social worker, spiritual counselor, and personal care aide is covered 100%. Patients and families also have access to nursing support 24/7 by phone.
- Medications: Prescriptions for pain and symptom relief are fully covered if related to your primary diagnosis.
- Medical Equipment: Items such as hospital beds, wheelchairs, and oxygen equipment are available at no cost to you.
- Medical Supplies: Bandages, catheters, and other medical supplies are included in the coverage.
- Grief Support: Loved ones are eligible for up to 13 months of bereavement counseling after a patient’s passing, free of charge.
Similar coverage is available through Medicaid, VA benefits, and most private insurers. For individuals who are uninsured or under-insured, financial assistance may be available through Hospice of the Northwest Foundation.
